Step 5: Right+Click on the trackpoint.mov layer and select Track Motion from the pop up menu. This will open the Tracker Controls Palette and will open the trackpoint.mov clip in its Layer Window.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Step 6: In the Layer Window, move the Time Marker to 1:06 and set an In point at this location by clicking on the Set IN point icon. Then move the Time Marker to the point where the actor’s fingers come to a resting position (2:00) and set an Out point by clicking on the Set OUT point icon.

Setting In and Out points for tracking purposes ensures the Tracking Analysis occurs within that range. This is sometimes a necessity as the area being tracked could move completely out of the frame (as is the case with our actor).

Step 7: Move the Time Marker to the In Point in the Layer Window. Now adjust the Feature region box around the red dot on the subjects finger. Go ahead and place the Anchor Point on the red dot.

Because the hand moves so fast from frame to frame, you will need to enlarge the Search region box enough to compensate for this movement. Since the hand is moving down, in addition to enlarging the Search region, elongate it so there is plenty of space beneath the Feature region to perform the search from frame to frame.

Move the Tracking region boxes similar to this.

Step 8: We are only tracking Position for this portion of the exercise. In the Tracker Controls Window make sure it is the only one checked.

Step 9: Click on the Edit Target button. Make sure Apply Motion To is set to the Purple Triangle Right layer. Click OK.
