Imagineer Systems / Siggraph Hong KongMocha Pro allows for more computer graphics workflows
Imagineer Systems is Hollywood's favorite planar tracker. At this year's SIGGRAPH convention in Hong Kong, Imagineer Systems brought their Mocha Pro workflow to demo for the strong visual effect communities that attend the Asian conference.
Owner of Big American Films, Evan Ricks was able to check out the Imagineer Systems presentation find out what the planar tracker will mean to the asian community.
BigAmericanFilms: What are youshowing at SIGGRAPH Asia?
ImagineerSystems: Imagineer Systems is here at SIGGRAPH in Hong Kong to give people the opportunity see, first hand, Imagineer's newest planar tracking, roto and object removal tool that dramatically reduces the manual labor associated with visual effects and stereo conversion projects. It's really the first time we've had the chance to show mocha Pro in this part of Asia, so we're really excited to see people's reaction.
BAF: What do you see your asian clients using mocha AE and mocha Pro for? Music Videos? Commercials? Films?
IS: Our customers throughout Asia are doing a wide variety of work with mocha - everything from feature films to television commercials, music videos. But what`s really interesting to us is the tremendous popularity of mocha in the 2D-3D conversion markets. We have a significant base in India, and we`re seeing that spread throughout the rest of Asia. Which is another reason why we`re here. We`re demonstrating everything from basic roto and tracking techniques to more advanced conversion workflows. We`re also showing our mocha AE customers how much more they can accomplish with even more advanced features available to them when they upgrade to mocha Pro.
BAF: How do the numbers of projects completed with Imagineer Systems software created in this part of the world (South East Asia) stack up against those in the United States? Are there more projects that use your software here? Or are they about the same as in the USA?
IS: Los Angeles, California (USA) is still the biggest market. If you include all of Asia (with India) it is still about twice as large in the US. Several studios in Beijing are using it, but we see tremendous upside potential and big demand throughout all of Asia for solutions like mocha.
BAF: What will Mocha Pro Version 3 add?
IS: mocha Pro version 3 is all about work flow. In this newest version, it becomes much easier to handle layers, and merging projects together. In some studios we find many artists working on the same project, so this kind of seamless integration is very important to them. From a features perspective, mocha Pro version 3 adds 3D camera export to After Effects, new roto enhancements, like the joining layers feature, and a new key frame dopesheet. We`re also working on significantly improving roto support for the Nuke compositing workflow - this is a huge development as it specifically enhances the 2D-3D conversion pipeline and workflow.
So we`re very excited to be here at SIGGRAPH Asia. We`re witnessing significantly increased demand for solutions like mocha Pro that facilitate this conversion workflow, so we`ll be focusing our attention on ensuring users fully understand all the mocha and its amazing Planar Tracking technology can do for them!
Thanks for your time Imagineer Systems - Hope you had a great show in Hong Kong. I know that Evan did.
