Minneapolis Media Institute Opens in Edina   (October 29, 2009) EDINA, Minn., BUSINESS WIRE --

Madison Media Institute, an industry leader in media arts education, is opening a new branch in Edina, MN, in what was once the legendary Flyte Tyme Studios. The new branch will be appropriately named 'Minneapolis Media Institute'.

Chris Hutchings, President of MMI, announced the new venture saying, 'We're excited to establish a Twin Cities location for MMI, and we're very much looking forward to bringing our expertise to an already thriving arts community.'

The former home of local production legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis was purchased last year by Grammy-winning Producer/Engineer Tom Tucker (Prince, Lucinda Williams) and Studio Expert and former owner of American Pro Audio, Dick McCalley (Paisley Park, Winterland, Flyte Tyme). Their goal was to repurpose the legendary studios into a world-class training center for those who sought careers in the audio recording and entertainment industries.

'We wanted to preserve this world-class recording complex. What better place to train the future leaders of the recording industry'? says Campus Director Tom Tucker. 'And now, as Minneapolis Media Institute, we'll be able to give our students a higher level of education than before with all of the benefits of a Nationally Accredited college.'

In addition to Associates and Bachelors level degree offerings, Minneapolis Media Institute will be offering multiple degree paths, starting with Recording & Music Technology and Game Art & Animation, followed shortly by programs in Media Systems Technology, Digital Media Design and Production, Video & Motion Graphics and Entertainment & Media Business.

'The most important thing for us as a media arts school has been to give our students every advantage we can, so that they have a better opportunity for success in the real world marketplace,' says Branch Vice President Dick McCalley, 'and becoming a branch of Madison Media Institute was the perfect way to meet that goal.'

Minneapolis Media Institute will be holding an open house to celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, November 28th from 10am ' 4pm, and will be giving guided tours of the facility and presenting the new programs to the public.

Madison Media Institute, established in 1969, specializes in media career training through hands-on work with cutting-edge equipment. Specific areas of curriculum include Digital Media Design & Production, Recording & Music Technology, Video & Motion Graphics, Media Systems Technology, Game Art & Animation and Entertainment & Media Business.
